Help Keep Children and Families Warm this Winter

The 23rd annual Warners’ Warm-up Coat Drive will be held from Oct. 23 – Nov. 5. First Things First, Kurt & Brenda Warner, and Operation Food Search are asking for support from the greater St. Louis community with the donation of new and gently-used winter coats of all shapes and sizes for bi-state residents in need. There are more than 100 drop-off locations throughout the region.

What started in 2001 as a one-day drive prior to a St. Louis Rams game has turned into an annual event with approximately 10,000 coats collected each year. OFS distributes the coats collected to our network of schools, shelters and social service centers. To date, approximately 290,000 coats have been distributed in the St. Louis area.

The 2022 Children’s Summer Food Program was successfully completed the end of August. This year the pantry served over 1300 children, which is about a 50% increase over what was expected. Cost for this program was about $12.10 per child. Thank you to all who helped support this program to keep the communities child fed over summer months.

2022 O.A.S.I.S. Golf Tournament

The 2022 Bob Schreiber Memorial Golf Tournament was held on June 6th at Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters. Although we were warned of possible storms, the weather cooperated and 140 golfers enjoyed a relaxing day on the course, an enjoyable happy hour, and fun silent auction. This year’s goal was to raise enough funds to replace two worn out commercial freezers in the pantry. The 2022 Tournament was a considerable success generating over $22K which will cover the cost of the freezers. As this is the only O.A.S.I.S. fund raiser a BIG thank you goes out to all who golfed and those who volunteered to make the 2022 event a whole-in-one.

Food Specials Needed

Have you noticed the rise in food prices? As food prices go up, food donations from local supermarkets seem to go down. The food pantry is running particularly low on what we call ‘specials’ — items that can turn simple food into a meal. Donations of these special items would be greatly appreciated by the food pantry and our clients.

  • Canned sloppy Joe sauce
  • Suddenly Salad
  • Pasta Sides
  • Tuna Helper
  • Salad dressings
  • BBQ sauce
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Mayo
  • Brownie Mix
  • Muffin Mix
  • Taco shells
  • Refried beans
  • Ro-tel canned tomatoes
  • Biscuit Mix
  • Country gravy mix

Children’s Summer Food Program

The Children’s Summer Food Program is in full swing as we provide extra food for families with school-aged children during the summer months. This year we estimated serving about 600 children — we are halfway through the program and have served over 500 children. This is an unexpected increase over last year’s program and monetary donations are welcome as no grants have been received to help with this year’s program expenses.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of O.A.S.I.S. and our to help mission those less fortunate in our community.
