January, 2022 O.A.S.I.S Quarterly Newsletter

A Look Back at 2021

In May of 2021 O.A.S.I.S. celebrated 31 years of service to individuals in St. Charles County. During the year our all-volunteer team provided over 7,500 hours of their time to keep the doors of the pantry open. O.A.S.I.S. served 2,600 St. Charles County families helping nearly 8,000 individuals. 2021 was a year blessed with tremendous generosity, including food, funds, and volunteer hours. With these blessings and God’s help O.A.S.I.S. continues to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate in St. Charles County.

Youth Food Challenge

Chapel of the Cross, Christ’s Church, Hope Lutheran, Immanuel Lutheran, Living Lord Lutheran, and Our Savior Lutheran churches will be participating in the 2022 OASIS Youth Food Challenge. The process this year will be the same as last year’s challenge. Each church decides when in February or March they wish to hold the food drive. This year the pantry is specifically requesting donations of breakfast cereal, toilet paper, canned pasta sauce, canned fruit, pancake mix, syrup, and hamburger helper. Please watch your church newsletter to find out how to donate to the food drive.

2022 Girl Scouts April Showers

In early April Girl Scouts across eastern Missouri will host the annual “Showering the Community” event. Girl Scouts set up mini collection sites, like a table or booth at participating Schnucks, Walmart or other stores in our area to encourage donations and collect personal care items for individuals and families in need. The O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry is a recipient of the April Showers personal care items, so please give generously when you see the Girl Scout table or booth at your favorite store on April 2nd.

2022 Golf Tournament – Save the Date

Golf tournament plans are already in the works for the 2022 Bob Schreiber Memorial Golf Tournament. The annual tournament is planned for June 6 th at Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, MO. Mark your calendars and watch for additional details about the upcoming tournament. Hope to see you there!

Thank you for another successful OASIS Christmas Shop!

We want to thank those of you that volunteered your time, hosted toy or coat drives, or made a donation to make this year’s OASIS Christmas Shop a HUGE success. This weekend we were able to offer, free of charge, shopping for every OASIS Food Pantry client with children.118 families attended; representing 372 children.  Each child received two new toys, a coat, hats & gloves, plus a couple of other treats. Thank you for being a blessing to others that needed the encouragement this Christmas. I hope you and yours have the best of holidays!

Gratitude for Blessings

O.A.S.I.S. News Flash – November 24, 2021

We are sending our gratitude for the blessings received at the pantry during this season of Thanksgiving. With combined Boy Scout, Francis Howell HS, and local day care food drives O.A.S.I.S. received more than 15,500 food items. Pick-up, sorting and stacking all those canned food items would not have been possible without help from the Lindenwood Men’s Lacrosse team, Women’s Field Hockey Team and several of our regular volunteers.

Thank you to those who donated food items, the volunteers that picked up items, and the volunteers that sorted and stacked. When we work together, so much can be accomplished to help our neighbors in need.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Children’s Summer Food Program.

The 2021 Children’s Summer Food Program concluded at the end of August, with 551 school-aged children receiving additional food during summer months to help reduce their summer food costs. This year O.A.S.I.S. was blessed with free breakfast items from the Salvation Army and Operation Food Search reducing the program cost from $15 to $8 per child. That cost savings enabled the pantry to distribute sliced cheese to families with school-aged children throughout September and October.

Successful Household Bag Drives

A big thank you goes out to Peace and Living Lord Lutheran Churches each for holding successful Household Items drive, donating nearly 200 items. Household items like dish detergent, hand soap, and trash bags are needed to run a household, but cannot be purchased with SNAP funds (food stamps). The pantry and its clients appreciate your generosity and support of this new program.

O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry Thrift Store – Saturday Volunteer Needed

Sadly, Angie, our Thrift Store Manager, is moving and must give up her volunteer role at the store. Angie did a wonderful job and her shoes will be hard to fill, but fortunately, two Thrift Store volunteers stepped up to begin co-managing store operations starting in November. That being said, the Thrift Store is now short on volunteers for the Saturday opening from 10AM to 3PM. For more information about volunteering at the Thrift Store please call (636)284-8962 or email oasisthriftstorestcharles@gmail.com
