Thanksgiving Donations Needed

Good morning FB Universe: I need your help please. As many of you know, The Brass Rail in O’Fallon Missouri feeds people in need for Thanksgiving every year for FREE. Last year we fed over 7000 people a hot Thanksgiving meal complete with all the trimmings. Well it’s nearly that time again and our goal this year is 10,000 meals; and this year we’d like to add a warm hat, gloves or mittens to EVERY order. So, we are humbly asking for donations to help us achieve this incredible goal. This is the first time we’ve had to ask for help, and we’re uncomfortable doing so, but the expense to feed 10,000 people and provide hats and gloves has gotten HUGE. If you have $5 or $10 or even some spare change, or can mail us a new winter hat, gloves or mittens, we’d be so grateful, and we promise you to put it to good use. If you would like to help please send to The Brass Rail 4601 Highway K O’Fallon MO 63368 Attn: Scott. And please share this with as many people as you can, maybe we can feed 12,000 with your help. Thank you so much.

Children’s Summer Food Program – Vatterott Grant Received

The O.A.S.I.S. Children’s Summer Food Program is aimed at supplementing school-age children’s food resources throughout the summer when free and reduced price meals are not available at schools. Each family with school-aged children visiting the pantry during June, July, and August will receive an additional food package that includes cereal, apple juice, bologna, hot dogs, cheese, granola bars, peanut butter, and mac and cheese. Costs for this program run about $15 per child and we estimate more than 2000 children will benefit from this program.

With those costs in mind, the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry feels very blessed to receive a $5000 grant towards our 2018 Children’s Summer Food Program from the Vatterott Family Youth Foundation. Not only did the Youth Foundation provide a $5000 grant they also came to the pantry to volunteer their time to pack the summer food bags and help distribute food. Receiving this grant is a great help in reaching our goal of providing needed food resources to low-income families and their school-aged children this summer. We are sending a big THANKS to the Vatterott Family Youth Foundation for their generous backing of our 2018 Children’s Summer Food Program.

Thank you for your continued support,
O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry Board Members

Golf Tournament – Prayers for Good Weather

A big thanks goes out to the 2018 Golf Tournament planers for their efforts in organizing the O.A.S.I.S. Annual Golf Tournament, dinner, and silent auction scheduled for Monday, June 4. We’re looking forward to a great turnout, a successful fund raising campaign, and a beautiful day.

The O.A.S.I.S. Children’s Summer Food Program

Long, lazy summer days is how many people think of summer vacation, but low-income families with school-aged children wonder how they will keep their pantries filled during summer months. 2018 will be the fifth year O.A.S.I.S. adds the Children’s Summer Food Program to the existing pantry food program. Families with children aged 6 to 18 years visiting the pantry during June, July and August receive additional food to help compensate for the meals children miss while on summer break from school.  These families will receive their regular monthly quantity of food with supplementary amounts of:

  • Apple juice
  • Cereal
  • Granola bars
  • Beef Bologna
  • Cheese Mac & Cheese
  • Beef hot-dog
  • Fruit Cups
  • Peanut butter

Our goal is to help disadvantaged children in St. Charles County bridge the summer meal gap — so they are healthy and ready to start the new school year.

Applause, Applause!

Ameren UE Missouri has been an OASIS Food Pantry supporter for many years, and this year our friends at Ameren UE have contributed a $1000 grant to help pay for the additional food costs associated with our children’s summer food program.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Postal Worker’s Food Drive

Thank you to everyone who came out to support this weekend’s Postal Workers food drive.  This years food drive looks to exceed the typical amount of food collected. The food received from the Postal Worker’s drive is important to O.A.S.I.S. as it helps the food pantry get through the summer months when few groups conduct food drives.

The O.A.S.I.S. food pantry is blessed to have so many partners helping us serve those less fortunate in our community.

Saturday, May 12th Stamp Out Hunger – Letter Carriers Food Drive

On Saturday, May 12th the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) will hold America’s largest one-day food drive. This event began in 1993 with the goal of having at least one NALC branch in each of the 50 states participating, and the results were astounding. More than 11 million pounds of food was collected, making it a one-day U.S. food collection record.

This year the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is being held on Saturday, May 12. That day food will be collected by our letter carriers from Alaska to Florida and Maine to Hawaii then distributed to local food banks and pantries. All food collected stays local, which is why the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry is asking for your help.

The pantry needs volunteers to help with receiving, sorting, and storing items collected by the letter carriers. Volunteers are needed from 12:00pm – 5:00pm, but working a partial shift is fine.  This is a big one-day project, and O.A.S.I.S. needs your support, here’s where you can help. O.A.S.I.S. needs:

  • 10-12 experienced O.A.S.I.S. pantry volunteers who are familiar with pantry items to lead less experienced volunteers.
  • 1-2 volunteers at each post office receiving, unloading, and weighting items collected by letter carriers.
  • At least 2 volunteers with pick-up trucks to shuttle items collected from post offices to the pantry.

If you are available to help or know someone who is, email oasisfoodpan@aol.com or contact Mike Wraspir at 636-293-1184.

Please be a part of this one-day nationwide food collection event by volunteering at O.A.S.I.S. or placing bagged non-perishable food items next to your mailbox for pick up on Saturday, May 12th. Let’s Stamp Out Hunger in our neighborhoods.
