Children’s Summer Food Program

The Children’s Summer Food Program is in full swing at O.A.S.I.S. The goal of this program is to supplement summer food resources for low-income families with school-age children. Each family with school-aged children visiting the pantry during June, July, and August receives an additional food package to help reduce their summer food costs. Our budget for this program runs about $15 per child and we estimate more than 1,500 children benefit from this program. The 2021 program is sponsored in part by the Bayer Fund, the philanthropic arm of Bayer.

New Household Items Program Initiated at O.A.S.I.S.

As you probably are aware, items like dish detergent, hand soap, and trash bags, are necessary to run a household and are expensive. Unfortunately, these non-food items cannot be purchased with SNAP funds (food stamps).

Last spring O.A.S.I.S. tested a new program to provide household items to clients visiting the pantry. Client response to the new program was very positive and the O.A.S.I.S. board decided to incorporate the Household Items program into the annual budget at about $16 per bag distributed. Your help getting this new program off the ground would be appreciated. Donations of the following items can be dropped off at your church or directly at the food pantry.

• Paper towels
• Facial Tissue
• Dish Detergent
• Anti-bacterial pump hand soap
• Resealable plastic storage bags (like Ziploc)
• Plastic wrap
• Kitchen trash bags
• Sponges
• Dryer Sheets
• Household Cleaner (like 409)
• Laundry prewash spray
• Toilet bowl cleaner
• Paper napkins
• Paper plates

Caring and Sharing

2020 was a tough year for many, but the generosity of our community has been overwhelming. O.A.S.I.S. is grateful for those blessings and also pleased to share our bounty with other outreach organizations. To pay it forward, O.A.S.I.S. donated five cases of canned tuna to God’s Helping Hands in North St. Louis and $2,000 to We Love St. Charles School Backpack program. Together we can do so much!

O.A.S.I.S. Thrift Shop – Volunteers Needed

The Thrift Shop is looking for volunteers to help on Fridays and/or Saturdays from 10AM to 3PM. The volunteer(s) would help price items, display donated items in the store, and help put purchased items in customer vehicles. You would be working in the Thrift Shop with other volunteers.

Congratulations O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry!

Schnucks Grocery Stores selected the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry to be the recipient of their Scan and Go Drive program.

Beginning today, March 29th until Sunday April 11th, select Schnucks stores will be selling $10 tear pads, for a Scan and Go drive at the register to benefit the Oasis Food Pantry. At the end of this two-week period, all funds generated from the Scan and Go drive will be presented to the Oasis Food Pantry.

Please stop by any of the following Schnucks stores 3/29/2021 until 4/11/2021 and ask at the register to make your donation.

MARCH NEWS: The O.A.S.I.S. Golf Tournament is Back!

Monday, June 7, 2021It was disappointing to cancel last year’s Annual Golf Tournament but necessary to keep our volunteers and benefactors safe. 2020 is now in the rear-view mirror and we look forward to better days, sunny weather and spending time on the golf course with our O.A.S.I.S. friends and Golf enthusiasts.

Although many challenges remain the same, we learned a lot over the last year and feel able to bring back the Annual Golf Tournament with slight modifications. This year’s modified event will include a round of golf at beautiful Old Hickory Golf Club in St. Peters, practice time, premium gift, a box lunch, and beverages. Following the round of golf there will be a social hour for golfers and volunteers, and a small auction.

This year is the 14th Annual O.A.S.I.S. Golf Tournament and will honor the memory of Bob Schreiber, an ardent O.A.S.I.S. supporter and golfer. The golf tournament brochure is available for viewing HERE. We hope to see you there.

Youth Food Drive
This year the contest was not in the food drive but collecting food during a pandemic. The challenging times didn’t intimidate our church youth groups as a very successful food drive was held and the O.A.S.I.S. warehouse is now overflowing with food. A big thank you goes out to all the youth groups that participated, their leaders, and everyone that donated to help those less fortunate in our community.

Food Fact
Total healthcare cost of hunger and food insecurity is $160 billion a year. America’s hunger bill is much greater than we realize, affecting educational outcomes, labor productivity, crime rates, Gross Domestic Product and much more.

How You can Help
We feel so blessed to report that the O.A.S.I.S. warehouse is completely filled with food, but there are still ways you can help. You can bring a team and play golf at the O.A.S.I.S. Tournament, you can send a cash donation to the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry, 1814 Boone’s Lick Road, St. Charles 63301; or donate through the O.A.S.I.S. web site. You can volunteer or offer your services to help with building maintenance. It takes all kinds of help to keep the pantry doors open. The O.A.S.I.S. Board and our clients are grateful for all the community support we receive.
