The O.A.S.I.S. annual Golf tournament is the food pantry’s major fund raiser. Funds from this year’s event will go towards the purchase of a much-needed used van for daily food item pick-ups from local grocery stores

O.A.S.I.S.  Food Pantry News – April 2019

Thrivent Community Meal Packing Event

A favorite food item supplied by the pantry is a taco meal kit, which consists of taco shells, refried beans, salsa, rice, and taco seasoning. Kelly Brickner, Wealth Manager at Thrivent Financial, organized and supplied items for a Thrivent Community Meal Packing Event held March 14th at Messiah Lutheran Church. Over 80 people met at the Church and packed 800 taco meal kits for the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry. It was a moving experience to see so many people, men, women, and children, come together to help those less fortunate. Many thanks to Kelly Brickner, Thrivent Financial, O.A.S.I.S. volunteers, and the packers for making this event a huge success.

Where’s the Beef?

It’s at the pantry! A big thank you goes out to Skip Hampton and Novus International for donating another steer to the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry. Receiving these meat donations goes a long way to help us provide a variety of healthy food options for our client families.

Hot Dog Chef Needed – Saturdays Mornings 9:30am to 11:30am

As a way to make our pantry clients and their children feel welcome we began a tradition of serving hot dogs on Saturday mornings while clients wait for their food. We are currently seeking a committed volunteer to become the Saturday morning hot dog chef. During inclement weather the hot dogs are cooked inside the building on a George Foreman grill and handed out through a window to a covered porch. During nice weather the dogs are grilled on a gas grill outside on the covered porch. Extensive grilling experience is not required but a firm commitment is required for this volunteer role. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Paul Fellin at paul.fellin@att.net or by phone at 314-895-6206.

Canned Fruit Needed

This has been a rough winter – and it’s not over yet.  During winter months fresh fruit donations are not readily available and we find we’ve been running short of canned fruits. Please donate canned fruits to help keep our clients healthy though the rest of the winter months. Canned fruits can be dropped off at the food pantry 1814 Boones Lick Road, St. Charles or donated through your church. Thank you for your help.

OASIS News for January 2019

Monsanto Fund Grant Received for 2019 Children’s Summer Food Program

We feel blessed to report the O.A.S.I.S. Food Pantry will receive a $5000 grant from Monsanto Fund to help O.A.S.I.S. fund the 2019 Children’s Summer Food Program. This program was developed to supplement summer food resources for low-income families with school-age children when free and reduced-price meals are not available through schools. Each family with school-aged children visiting the pantry during June, July, and August receive an additional food package to help reduce their summer food costs. Our budget for this program runs about $15 per child and we estimate more than 2000 children benefit from this program.

We are sending a big THANK YOU to Monsanto Fund, the philanthropic arm of Bayer, for their generous backing of our 2019 Children’s Summer Food Program. With this grant we are a step closer to reaching our goal of providing needed food resources to low-income families and their school-aged children.
